An Important Announcement To Our Customers: Battery Boosting

Dear Customers,

Segway Inc. has become aware of several companies offering charging and rebuilding services for Segway Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) and Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. These companies are not affiliated with, nor supported or endorsed by Segway, as the services may create a safety hazard and result in a loss of warranty coverage.

Commonly referred to as ‘boosting’ or ‘reconditioning’, battery charging services are advertised as a safe method for revitalizing Segway batteries that can no longer be charged by the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) charger or Segway off-board charger. Battery rebuilding services involve partial or total cell replacement within the battery itself; not only does the procedure compromise the structural integrity of the battery assembly, but it can allow outside contaminants to enter the environmentally-sealed battery case. Both practices can create serious safety hazards, are not covered within our limited warranty, and are strongly discouraged.
